”United we stand, divided we fall” – AesopA lot of nations represent plenty of races and cultures and are considered as a nation of immigrants. These countries do however still face many racial issues. There has come a time where people are divided into the righteous and the unrighteous, and the righteous do the dividing. Which explains that when a person has an opinion, that differentiates them from someone else, they start dividing by saying, them and us. We should all have a fresh start by being united. Today, a form of racism that exists may not only be acts of mentioning unfair and intolerable comments but more not participating in a group where there could be people with different ethnicity, not preferring being present near someone who is classified as a person of ”color”. I do claim that the situation regarding dividing has changed, yet it has more to do. But There were some inspirational people in this world that changed humanity in its best ways. In 1865, the slavery got outlawed and in 1868 America granted equal protection for black people. Despite these laws, blacks did not always get treated well. According to history.com, On December 1, 1955, a white man asked a lady named Rosa Parks to give up her seat for him on the bus, which she refused to. She got tired of not being treated right and I believe that standing up for yourself is extraordinary and remarkable. This action gave a lot of attention and she got famous for it. She received different awards and she also started the Montgomery bus boycott. Regarding different aspects of her action, I have not heard anyone who disagrees with her, maybe in that time, some racist people did not like her behavior. But apart from that, no one disagrees.Inspirational people including her did make the world change its thoughts on divided humanity, but there are yet some changes to be.On August 9, 2014, occurred the catastrophic shooting of Michael Brown by white police officer Darren Wilson. Michael was suspected and officer Darren Wilson shot him. The guardian.com claim that there was a video released from Ferguson market. The documentary includes previously unseen footage of brown in the store getting drinks and cigarillos where the clerk puts the drinks and cigarillos in a bag. In the video, they seemed to exchange a small amount of marijuana. However, the attorney for the market claims the workers refused the offer and there was no deal between them. This caused alot of demonstrations. Many people close to Michale Brown claimed that they have been harassed by the police, they would ask questions like ”where you coming from, or where have you been?” An unnamned man in the crowd said that he is a grown man and that they do not do anything and nobody usually calls in on them, so there is no need for the police to suspect. “Regardless of what was revealed in the video, Michael Brown should have never lost his life,” board member John Gaskin claims. “… it is unfortunate that Brown was portrayed internationally as a ‘thief’ and ‘criminal’.” There are different aspects regarding this issue actually, people have claimed he was a thief and deserved to get shot.To summarize everything I do believe that if we look at history there are many admirable and positive examples of the time in the world right now. Black people have fought for their rights and they have earned it by now, many black people have become actresses, singers, tv hosts, and most importantly we had the African American president Barack Obama of the United States. However, there are still some issues to deal with even today. Regardless of the situation, I do not think someone is worth losing their life. Maybe going to jail could be a way of giving a thief a taste of their own medicine, not by dying. The police could have shot his leg if he felt threatened. Racism has been present in almost every civilization throughout history I believe. Even though we have progressed incredibly in the last couple of decades, does racism, hatred, and acts that are intolerable still exist, deeply embedded in close-minded people and traditions. I, on the other hand, have not experienced any discrimination so I do not know the feeling but I have seen others experience, and it just shows peoples lack of knowledge on the racists part. I do believe that it is time for us to take charge of this situation and think about solutions regarding the problem.
