REASON FOR CHOOSING PROJECT TOPIC AREA
On reading through the list of topics provided under the project areas and titles in the information pack, performing an analysis and evaluation of the business and financial performance of an organization caught my interest as its been something I’ve had interest in and looked forward to in my practical work field.
REASON FOR CHOOSING ORGANISATION
Once the topic was chosen, I realized it had to be prepared for companies under specific industries. On comparing the three industries, health care providers felt to be the most familiar one and began with the search for a company.I came across various hospitals and went through their portfolios and finally decided to research into Apollo Hospitals enterprise.Being a shareholder of the company, it gave me more access to their financial reports.

ABOUT APOLLO HOSPITALS ENTERPRISE
Apollo Hospitals is one of the largest hospital groups in the healthcare sector providing services over South Asia and Middle East. It was established in 1983 by Dr. Prathap C Reddy. It provides a wide arena of services including Hospitals, Pharmacies, Primary Care ; Diagnostic Clinics.
ABOUT FORTIS HEALTHCARE LIMITEDFortis Healthcare Limited is one of the fastest growing healthcare providers across India, Dubai, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. Their service range includes hospitals, diagnostics and day care specialty facilities. It was founded in the year 2001 with over 45 healthcare facilities today.

REASEARCH OBJECTIVES
The objective of this RAP is to scrutinize the financial performance of Apollo Hospital Enterprises and compare with Fortis Healthcare by:
Performing a financial analysis of Apollo Hospital over a three year period, 2015-2017.

Applying Ratio Analysis to evaluate the financial performance during three years, 2015-2017.

Comparing the results obtained with Fortis Healthcare to get a clearer picture of its performance in the healthcare industry.

Analyzing the business environment using various models such as PESTLE and SWOT.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The following were the research questions that were relevant in preparing this research:
What sources of information will I need to gather relevant information?
Which ratios are to be to analyze Apollo Hospitals financial performance over the period?
What models would aid best in analyzing the business environment?
Whether any ethical issues may come across during the research?

SOURCE OF INFORMATION USED TO OBTAIN RELEVANT DATA
Sources of information are broadly classified into two main categories, namely primary and secondary source.

PRIMARY SOURCE:
Primary Source of information is first-hand data from people who have a direct connection with it.

SECONDARY SOURCE:
Secondary source of information’s are interpretations and evaluations of primary sources.In this RAP, all the information collected and used in preparing the report is secondary.

ANNUAL REPORTS:
Annual reports are formal financial statements that are published yearly. It provides information about company’s activities and financial performance. These have been used to analyze the financial performance of the companies.

ONLINE SOURCES:
The Internet is one of the most popular source of information readily available and has aided in finding a lot of relevant data in preparing the RAP.

BOOKS:
A number of business and management books have been a useful for reference and also as a source of information.

LIMITATION OF DATA GATHERING:
The annual reports have been mainly depended on, which is prepared by the management of the company and thereby may be subject to bias due to the undue pressure to report excellent results.

Referencing through online sources and verifying the reliability has been a time consuming process due to the diverse collection of information available.

ETHICAL ISSUES:
Being ethical is of Paramount importance. All information used has been collected from secondary sources, thereby includes no confidentiality issues. The Harvard referencing rules have been followed to aid in avoiding plagiarism.

Ratio analysis indicates the managements Operating Efficiency
Inter-firm Comparisons can be performed which enables the inefficient firms to adopt suitable measures for improving their efficiency
Disadvantages
They do not reflect current conditions as they’re prepared based on historic information.

Different accounting policies make the accounting data and accounting ratios of two firms non-comparable.

Ratios are tools of quantitative analysis only and qualitative factors are ignored.

SWOT Analysis
SWOT analysis is a process of identifying the strengths and weakness of the organization, opportunities and threats present in the market that it operates in. Advantages
It can be performed by anyone with knowledge about the business and does not require technical skills.

SWOT method can be used to evaluate and analyze a number of project objectives.

Disadvantages
It’s a Subjective analysis method that reflects bias of individuals who collect data and prepare it.

This tool provides no mechanism to rank the significance of one factor compared to another.

PESTLE analysis.

PESTLE analysis is a tool that helps identify the macro forces surrounding an organization which relates to Political, Environmental, Social, Technological, Economic and Legal factors. Its often used when launching a new product or venturing into a new business. (Free-management-ebooks.com, 2018)

Aids in reducing potential threats to the organization
Enables the organization to develop strategic thinking and analyze implications of entering new markets.

Disadvantages
Decisions made could be subjective due to assumptions being used in data.

Process is often restricted due to time and cost constraints.
