Biography: a song he thought would connect to them

Biography: Logic or “Psychological”‘s real name is Sir Robert Bryson Hall II who was born on January 22, 1990, which makes him 27 years old right now. He is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and songwriter. He has lived a dark road, his father suffered from a cocaine addiction and his mother with an alcohol addiction, this, however, is not the reason he wrote this song. Logic expressed in a series of tweets that although he never personally dealt with suicidal thoughts, he wrote the song for the fans. He said he is thankful for the fans who tell him that his music has gotten them through so many tough times and saved their lives and he stumbled upon the realization that if he could help someone unintentionally, what could he do if he tried? He put himself in the position that so many of his fans were experiencing and he created a song he thought would connect to them and help them see the light in the dark and that birthed the song 1-800-273-8255.Why I chose this song: 1-800-273-8255 a song in partnership with the national suicide prevention line and that is their phone number. The song is so important because approximately 11 people die from suicide every day in Canada and approximately 210 people will attempt suicide today. Every year around the world almost a million people die from suicide and suicide is in the top three leading causes of death among people aged 15-44 years old and in some countries is the second leading cause of death between 10-24 year olds (those statistics don’t even take into account the attempted suicide rates which are almost 20 times more regular). Mental illnesses such as depression and substance abuse (specifically alcohol addiction) are primary risks for suicidal tendencies. I have known so many people who have attempted suicide and that’s why it hits so close to home. Main message: The story in this song is so powerful because it is expressing that suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems and you’ll be grateful if you choose to live instead. Suicide isn’t worth it and there is always hope somewhere. It shows you that if you are considering making an attempt at your own life, there are people you can talk to about it and you don’t have to go through with it. 1-800-273-8255 is a suicide awareness song and Logic has said that the first hook and verse are about someone who has called the suicide hotline because they are at the end of their rope and is talking about wanting to die and all of the reasons that they want to. In the second verse, we hear the perspective of the operator (sung by Alessia Cara) detailing reasons of why the person should stay alive. In the final hook and outro (sung by Khalid) the person calling expresses their new outlook on their life and choosing to not commit suicide.Poetic devices:Metaphor: “What’s the day without a little night?” Referencing good times and bad times in life.Repetition: “I don’t wanna be alive” x4, “I want you to be alive” x4 & “I finally wanna be alive” x4Onomatopoeia: “Who can relate? Woo!”
