has its greater popularity as a spice across the world. However, it has also
been used as a medicine as well. Turmeric has its greater popularity in India
where it has been used for over 100 years. The yellow color in curry is a
result of the Turmeric component in the curry. The main compound that makes
Turmeric is curcumin and it has a composition of 4% of the total composition of
Turmeric. Curcumin has several medicinal properties that make it to be sought. However,
this important compound is poorly absorbed in the blood stream. If one was
taking a curcumin supplement, they need to take it with black pepper which
helps in its absorption into the blood stream.

of the benefits of taking Turmeric is that it contains a compound that makes
fats to the soluble. It is therefore ideal to take with fatty food to help
break down the fats.  This reduces the
possibility of one becoming fat as a result of consuming fatty foods.

diseases and cancer. This mainly occurs when the inflammation is chronic. In
the body there is need for a little body inflammation to keep off bacteria from

remove it. Curcumin also helps to improve the brain
functionality. Many of the illnesses that affect the brain are a result of a decrease
in a hormone called BDNF. Curcumin helps to increase the level of this hormone and therefore
reducing the possibility of brain disorders. Curcumin has also been found to be
an effective antidepressant. This is due to the fact that Curcumin is linked
with BDNF whose variance influences brain functionality.

Turmeric helps to reduce oxidation of cells in the body, reducing the
possibility of illnesses in the body. This is by increasing the antioxidant
capacity of the body by the production of antioxidant enzymes. In an ongoing
research, Turmeric has been seen to reduce the growth of cancer cells, by
inhibiting their multiplication. The ability to do so has placed Turmeric among
the possible cures for cancer. This research as also linked Turmeric with
inhibiting the growth of tumors. Turmeric is also known to reduce heart
diseases and heart attack. Research has shown that curcumin is used to line the
endothelium. This part is the inner lining of blood vessels and the heart.
Reducing the inflammation of the heart cells is also an accrued benefit.

other illness that Turmeric is known to mitigate is arthritis. There are some
supplement tablets that are made of curcumin and patients that are given these
tablets are known to respond well to respond well. Consuming turmeric is
therefore known to have the same effect.

Turmeric has been associated with slowing down of aging in people. This is by
reducing the age related diseases that usually affect the aging population. People
with a history of consuming Turmeric are known to have a longer life span than
those that do not consume it.

Given the above
benefits that are associated with Turmeric, it is wise to consume Turmeric in generous
amount over the course of the day. The effortless way of consuming Turmeric is through
making it part of the daily meals, drinks and care products that are used on a
daily basis. Below are some of the popular recipes that are used in food







Chapter 1: Turmeric food recipes

Turmeric mint rice


Serving 2 people

cup of rice (Brown in color)

(half teaspoon)

seeds (half teaspoon)

oil (1 tea spoon)

(Half tea spoon)

pepper (Pinch)

lemon (half)

leaves (chopped few)


the rice carefully

two cups of water and add a dash of salt

the rice to the boiling water and let it simmer for 40-45 minutes while covered

the rice to steam for 10 minutes with the heat turned off

a pan on heater and add half tea spoon of coconut oil

carmine seeds to the hot oil and wait till they pop.

the brown rice that was cooked earlier

the chill powder and turmeric, stirring for complete mixing.

mixing is done, turn the heat off

the mint leaves and squeeze in the lemon, mixing them


Turmeric chicken


  Chicken (1 lb)

Ginger (1 inch)

Lemon (half)

Turmeric (2 tea spoon)

Salt (1 tea spoon)

Red chili powder (half tea spoon)

Black pepper (half tea spoon)

Coconut oil (one table spoon)

Cumin seeds (1 table spoon)

Onion (half)

Cloves (2)

Cinnamon (1 stick)

Large tomato (1)

Water (half cup)

Coriander powder (1 table spoon)


Put the chicken in the bowl and put the turmeric, chili powder, lemon
juice, grated ginger.

Marinate chicken overnight

Heat the coconut oil in medium heat on a pan

Add cumin seed, garlic, onions, tomatoes, peppercorns, and cloves.

Put the chicken and stir till the chicken is not anymore pink

On separate bowl mix turmeric powder, coriander and the water

Add this paste to the chicken and cover

Cook for 25 minutes and chicken will then be ready

Turmeric scramble


Eggs (2)

Olive oil (1 table spoon)

Spinach (handful)

Pepper (half red bell)

Turmeric powder (pinch)

Cumin powder (pinch)

Salt (pinch)            

Cayenne (pinch)


Beat eggs in bowl, add Turmeric powder, cumin, and salt

On a pan, Sauté bell peppers and spinach till they wilt in olive oil

Add the eggs and scramble them

Add cayenne and cumin powder to spice the eggs further

Turmeric tofu


Tofu (10 ounce)

Olive oil (1 table spoon)

Pepper (half red bell)

Turmeric powder (pinch)

Cumin powder (pinch)

Salt (pinch)            

Cayenne (pinch)


Put the tofu in bowl and crush it to make it crumbly

Heat it in oil on a skillet on medium heat

 Add Turmeric powder, cumin, and
salt and cook till its soft for 3 minutes

Season with cayenne and cumin powder to spice the tofu further and stir
for about 2 minutes

Serve the turmeric Tofu

Turmeric greens


A medium cabbage

Turmeric (1 tea spoon)

Canola oil (half cup)

Mustard seeds (I tea spoon)

Plain yoghurt (half cup)

Salt (I table spoon)

Ground coriander (I table spoon)


Cut cabbage into pieces and place in colander

Rinse the cabbage and drain water in cabbage pieces

Put pan on fire and add canola oil. Add the mustard seed cook them until
the pop sound starts.

Turn off heat and wait for five minutes

Add yoghurt and stir for 2 minutes in medium heat

Put in salt, coriander and turmeric and cook for 5 minute

Add the cabbages and stir well to combine all the ingredients uniformly over
the cabbage

Cook in low heat for five minutes and serve

Turmeric soup

Serve 3 people


Olive oil (2 table spoon)

White onions (1)

Salt (half tea spoon)

Cloves garlic (2)

Cauliflower (small head)

Water (Half cup)

Coriander (half tea spoon)

Turmeric (1 tea spoon)

Coconut milk (1 cup)

Italian parsley (half cup)

Black pepper


Put oil in a pot and heat to shimmering

Cook in the onions till they are soft for about 5 minutes

Add garlic and cook in low heat for 5 minutes

Add cauliflower, water, coriander, turmeric and cumin and salt

Simmer in low heat for 10 minutes.

Put the soup in the blender and blend it till its smooth.

Put soup in pot again and add the coconut milk.

Stir as it warms, as you add pepper, parsley more salt (if needed)

Serve in bowls

Turmeric burger


Sprout lentils (2 cups)

Sweet potato (1 cooked)

Coconut oil (2 table spoon)

Ground flux (3 table spoon)

Salt (1 table spoon)

Turmeric (1 tea spoon)


Steam sweet potato in oven at 400 degrees

Put pepper, Turmeric, salt, garlic, butter, flux and sweet potatoes in a
food processor

Form the mixture into patties

Cook the patties on a pan with oil or butter on both sides

Serve with any toppings

Turmeric pickle


Sliced ginger (quarter cup)

Organic turmeric (half cup)

Olive oil (1 cup)

Mustard seeds (1 tea spoon)

Chili powder (half teaspoon)

Salt (2 tea spoon)

Lemon (1)


Put oil in pan, heat and add spices.

Add the mustard seed and heat them till they start to pop, turn off heat.

Add sliced ginger and turmeric and cook for 2 minutes, turn off the heat.

Put the resultant mixture into a glass jar with the lemon and salt and

The pickles are ready and commutable for as long as two months.




Chapter 2:     Turmeric beverages

Turmeric Tonic


root (1 inch)

juice (half lemon)

(I tea spoon)

water (16 oz)

pepper (pinch)

for cayenne pepper and black pepper, put all the ingredients in a blender

Turmeric milk   


Almonds (1 cup)

Water (4 cups)

Medjool dates (5)

Cardamom pods (3)

Turmeric powder (1 tea spoon)

Dash of black pepper

Pinch of saffron


Soak the almonds overnight in a bowl of water

Put the soaked almonds in a blender and add water slowly

Pulse to the desired level of creaminess by varying the water progressively

Add medjool dates, ground cardamom, turmeric powder, cinnamon, black
pepper and the pinch of saffron to the blender

Add water while blending till to attain needed creaminess level

Strain the milk with a cheesecloth over a bowl

Serve the turmeric milk

Turmeric tea


Cinnamon (1 tea spoon)

Pinch of clove

Fresh ginger (1 tea spoon)

Turmeric (2 tea spoon)

I cup of Water

Honey (half tea spoon)


Black pepper (Pinch)


Put water into a pot and add ginger, clove, cinnamon and turmeric.

Simmer the mixture for 15 minutes

Sieve out to obtain the liquid

Add honey and milk and the tea is ready to be taken

Turmeric cauliflower

Serving two people

Cauliflower (Medium)

Turmeric (I tea spoon)

Olive oil (2 table spoons)

Ginger (1 tea spoon)

Ground cumin (1 tea spoon)


Slice cauliflower into three steaks

Season the steaks with pepper and salt

Put half the oil into the pan and slowly cook the cauliflower till golden

Use the other oil to mix ginger, cumin, and turmeric with a whisk.

Put the mixture over the cauliflower steaks

Put in oven for fifteen minutes to make it tender


Turmeric smoothie


Spinach, collards and chopped kale (handful combination)

Peeled banana

Sweetened coconut water (Cup)

Turmeric (1 table spoon)

Almond butter (2 table spoon)

Flax oil (1 table spoon)

Ground cinnamon (half teaspoon)


Put all ingredients in a blender

Puree till it becomes smooth

Serve the smoothie

Turmeric Hot Toddy


Turmeric (half tea spoon)

Milk (1 cup)

Raw honey (1 tea spoon)

Whiskey (half jigger)

Cinnamon (quarter tea spoon)


Put milk, honey and whiskey into a pot

Warm at medium heat until foaming starts

Add Turmeric and cinnamon and stir the mixture.

Warm for a further two minutes and then serve


Chapter 3: Turmeric care recipes

Turmeric face mask


Turmeric (1 teaspoon)

Honey (1 tea spoon)

Yoghurt (1 table spoon)

Oat flour (1 table spoon)


Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix them till a paste forms

Add more yoghurt if the paste is too dry

Apply the paste over the face avoiding eye brows and the hair

Let the paste stay on for fifteen minutes

Wash the face to remove the mask

Turmeric stye cure


Turmeric (quarter tea spoon)

Arrow root powder (quarter tea spoon)

Milk Kefir (half tea spoon)


Put turmeric, arrow root powder and milk Kefir into a bowl

Mix them thoroughly with a rod

Add water drops at a time till a thick paste is gotten

Apply the paste on affected areas and allow to dry

Swelling will go down in five minutes.
