life to succeed, as well as giving them gifts in life that allow them to have
fun. Raising a child is difficult enough, but keeping them healthy and happy is
the more challenging aspect of it all. There are many issues that go along with

disorders. Parents strive to give their child the best that they can, the

issues can arise including addiction to video games that lead to isolation and

effect the child, but everyone who surround them. In this analysis, I will be
discussing some facts distinguishing children and video game addiction and how
this can become a troubling and rising issue amongst children.

             Video game
addiction in children is a real issue, for decades there have been many forms
of video games that dominate the world of entertainment. It can become a
problem when your child wants to be stuck in their room all day playing that
new game they just got instead of enjoying a nice beautiful day out with their friends.
Or it can become an issue when they no longer want to sign up for their
favorite sport because their mission is to beat the next level of their game
and buy the sequel. It is extremely common for not only children and
adolescents to possess addictive behavior towards video games, but also common
for adults. Not all games are addicting and harmful but for the children who
may feel the need to compete or feel they are getting more pleasure from
interactive multiplayer gaming than they do in reality. Zhengchuan Xu presents
how common video game addiction is by it being a psychological issue or it can
also be the adolescents environment that causes this to form into an addiction.

was 53.7 hours with the max amount of 105 hours a child had spent gaming. In
these findings, it presented that all the patients had at least one
psychological disorder. From these psychological disorders 86.7% was
interactive, 71.7% was anxiety, 38.3% was mood disorders, 26.7% was feces or
urine issues, 16.7% were tic issues, 6.7% was substance problems. Of these issues,

respecting and listening to their parents. However, Choo’s studies conclude
that parents should not reduce the amount of time children spend playing video
games at that point in their addiction, that working on the parent and child
relationship first will be more effective with the issue (Choo, pg. 1430).

children playing less video games. Those who did not get this in their home

that children who can teach themselves to self-regulate properly and control
their emotions with the help from their family and environment can aide in a

the last decade, there have been fourteen studies that have been looked at
regarding parent and child relationships along with parent influences of their
child or adolescent becoming an addictive gamer. There has also been an
increased amount of research shown from the last decade that is leading towards
more findings and developments of the challenging behavior within the child
(Kuss). King confirmed in his study that the relationship between a child and
their parents fully reflects how severe their addiction is in playing video
games. This review was conducted over adolescents who played extensively in the
last decade between the years 2007-2016. The reason for this specific choice in
decades is because it was a relevant time for reviewing this information as
well as the amount of addictive gaming activity had not changed immensely over these
ten years. King mentioned in his conclusions that adolescents whom are
addictive to gaming is becoming a larger area of study, it has not quite gotten
to the point where it is a vital issue. King believes this is due to adolescents
not being considered equivalent to adults in terms of being independent and being
their own individual, even though the same tools that are used to screen adult
gamers are the same as they use on addictive child gamers. His studies show
that through the last decade there is not an immediate need to research and
study this terrible habit, but it will be, considering the reason for these
addictive gaming behaviors come from factors related to parental nurturing, low
family conflict and more household structure. King believes incorporating these
positive systems within the family will be crucial in addressing these

research developments, attaining information from each other and working to
find a source of why there is such a vast issue with children and their
addictive behaviors to playing video games. Over my research findings I have
been able to see that all my sources can agree on the fact that there is a
deeper issue within the child that leads to this addictive behavior. Not only
do my sources realize the child may have some neurological or social issues,
but all can agree that these issues arise because of their environment. Whether
the child was not nurtured enough, or they are living in an abusive or
neglected environment has contributed to the outcome of their child’s behavior
with video games.

gaming behaviors that occur are internal issues within the family and the
child. This would mean taking on a holistic approach and recognizing that
behaviors from the child is interconnected and to treat this issue would mean
to treat the whole person, socially, physically and psychologically. Through my
findings I have been able to discuss how problematic this issue is and to the
degree of time children spend playing video games. All of my sources have
identified that there is a deeper-rooted issue that will be difficult to fix
but is doable in time. In future years of research to come there will be more
findings on how these problems can be treated and prevented within the family
structure, not only to better the child but to better the parent-child
