The American Civil war is one of the biggest happenings in Americas history and was fought from 1861 to 1865 in the United States. It was a result of different things, slavery, economy, abolitionist movement and the underground railroad is some of them. There were many reasons why the soldiers fought. Some fought on moral ground. Either they felt like slavery was wrong or right. Some fought because they thought their prosperity and way of life was threatened, they didn’t want any drastic change. Others felt they had to preserve the Union, patriotism.
Slavery and the status of African americans is known as the main cause of the civil war that plunged the US that lasted from 1861-1865. Slavery was in fact introduced to Virginia well before the nations funding, in 1619. Cheap labor was hard to find at that time and white settlers saw Africans imported to the continent as an opportunity. In the early 1700s, the southern farms and plantations got prosperous by the great export agents; rice, tobacco indigo and forest products. The Northern merchants gained growth either by trading African slaves or by exporting products made by slaves.
All hope of that slavery could eventually die ended when the cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney. The machine made it easier to enable textile with the type of cotton that was grown in most of the southern. The general demand for cotton exploded almost at the same time as the cotton gin was invented. Before 1840, the cotton industry in the southern America was more profitable that all other U.S exports combined
